Market observers are expecting global growth to accelerate in the second half of 2021, with a number of economies pursuing expansionary fiscal and monetary policies in order to support their recovery. Emerging markets in particular are expected to benefit from the massive U.S. fiscal stimulus package being put together by the Biden administration.               

Several emerging economies are facing internal monetary policy issues. Some central banks in those countries are looking at raising interest rates this year to dampen inflation, even though their economies still need ongoing fiscal support and stimulus.

A number of emerging economies continue to struggle with containing the virus. The recovery of these economies will now largely be determined by the success of their Covid-19 vaccination programmes, especially for those countries with a large tourism industry.
