Capital markets are facing increasingly complex policy challenges amid a volatile geopolitical policy environment, evolving markets across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific, and an ageing global population. This Chatham House ‘City Series’ Capital Markets conference will look beyond the immediate and short term and examine the opportunities and challenges arising from adopting a long-term capital markets outlook. It will provide a timely opportunity to assess the current landscape ten years on from the global financial crisis and consider whether investors are now at the heart of capital markets activity.
Discussions will also acknowledge the emergence of new standards of responsibility and governance in long-term investment planning and, crucially, question whether these are improving long-term sustainability for companies, their shareholders and society. This conference will also consider the policy and regulation challenges posed by technological innovation and discuss the future of technology-enabled advice and the implications for consumers.
Sessions will focus on:
- How the capital markets can best work for retail investors
- The challenges and opportunities for capital markets arising from an ageing population
- The role of long-term investing in healthy capital markets
- The policy and industry implications of technology-driven disruption of traditional financial models
To enable as open a debate as possible, this conference will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
