S&P Dow Jones Indices wins "Best ETFs Paper 2018"

ETFs are increasingly being used by investment managers as tools to effectively manage their portfolio objectives. In equity markets, there is now a proliferation of indices which can be used by managers to express all types of different views and to implement desired exposures. Smart beta ETFs are increasingly being used to manage exposure to selected risk factors.

Even in fixed income markets, ESG use is expanding rapidly. Sometimes, the purpose is to gain passive, core exposure as part of a strategic fixed income allocation. At other times, ETFs are used to make tactical adjustments based on short-term views. Being highly liquid, bond ETFs can sometimes be bought on a tighter spread than that of the underlying basket of cash bonds.
